I have seen many middle age people to have symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. Even my aunt has been suffering from it and she is in her 40s but it does cause her very much trouble and she at times have to take complete bed rest for a day or two to cope with it. I think the best way is to indulge in a healthy lifestyle from your childhood to avoid such disease or at least to prolong it up to certain age.
